...GENERAL BACKGROUND...

...when the archon war was initiated,... ... morax resided within a region of liyue called the guili plains alongside the god of dust, guizhong and their people, the adepti (a group of magical beings and gods). among these were the guardian yakshas, elite adepti summoned by morax himself.following the death of guizhong during the war, morax led their people to establish the place now known as liyue harbour. from then on, morax fought to protect his people from other gods and monsters. he impaled many gods with stone lances (one of which was osial) and threw a meteor on a sea monster, the chi of guyun. these events marked the formation of guyun stone forest. following osial's defeat, morax later sealed the other god within the forest, beneath the geo archon's stone spears.born of immense hatred, many demons spawned from the remains of those defeated in the war. morax tasked the yakshas to eliminate these beings but not all of them were strong enough to withstand their foes' darkness. consequently, many yakshas turned against their own, others corrupted by rage and fear and ultimately met their untimely end. presently, alatus (also known as xiao) is the only remaining yaksha to survive.around ...two thousand years ago..., the archon war came to its conclusion with morax emerging as one of the seven victors — subsequently known as the seven. at present, only morax, who now assumes the name of zhongli and barbatos (the god of anemo, currently under the name of venti) remained out of the seven, with the other five archons being replaced over the years.

⠀GENSHIN BASED VERSES⠀

⠀main / default verse :⠀ ⠀ set during present day genshin canon. timeline-flexible depending on story chapter. most interactions will take place in this verse by default unless specified.

⠀past verse :⠀ ⠀ a catch-all verse with a focus on exploring past-setting dynamics in the genshin universe ⠀any time prior to the events of the liyue arc⠀ (i.e: zhongli still has his gnosis), such as before or during the archon war.

⠀corruption verse :⠀ ⠀ an alternate verse exploring a reality where morax did not prevail as the geo archon following the events of the archon war but⠀instead was corrupted by his enemies⠀ to the point where he had to be killed and sealed away to protect the very nation he once founded. however, unbeknownst to them, he managed to survive and was freed by a cult of devout followers who released the barrier holding him in place. ( by default, this verse assumes guizhong to be the present geo archon, as this is a role reversal verse of sorts )

⠀ALTERNATE UNIVERSES⠀

⠀modern fantasy verse :⠀ ⠀ zhongli resides in modern-day liyue as a god living under mortal guise ( also adaptable to a futuristic / dystopian shanghai depending on interaction ).his main occupation is based in hospitality and as a ceo running a large-scale hotel chain , as his many years’ experience and travels allow for him to be a valuable guide and source of information. the hotel chain [ exact name under co. ] is said to have been fashioned and designed by zhongli himself to the very last detail, given his expansive knowledge in architecture.he also serves on occasion as a preservationist for historical artefacts in museums and art pieces in galleries.his “undercover” job known only to other non-human beings involves performing rites for deceased spirits, gods and other supernatural beings, much like he does in canon. this also involves investigatory work around the cause and circumstances of death, in particular if it is deemed suspicious or out of the ordinary.
